1. Process concept
The resin is impregnated by hand into the fibers in the form of woven, knitted, stitched, or bonded fabrics. This is usually done by rollers or brushes, and increasingly using press-rolled impregnants, where the resin is pressed into the fabric through a rotating roller and resin bath, and the laminate is cured under standard atmospheric conditions (as shown in Figure 3).

2. the main material
The resin matrix can be any one of epoxy resin, polyester, vinyl ester, phenolic resin, etc., and the fiberglass type is not limited.
3. the main advantages
i) Widely used for many years.
ii) The cost is lower if room-temperature curing resin is used.
iii) Wide choice of suppliers and material types.
iv) Higher fiber content and longer fiber length.
4. the main disadvantage
i) The mixing of the resin, the resin content of the laminate, and the quality of the laminate are highly dependent on the technology of the laminator. Low resin-content laminates generally cannot be obtained without introducing excessive voids.
ii) Resin health and safety considerations. The lower molecular weight of hand layup resins generally means that they are more hazardous than higher molecular weight products. Lower viscosity resins also mean they have a tendency to penetrate clothing, etc.
iii) Limiting airborne styrene concentrations in polyesters and vinyl esters to legal concentrations is increasingly difficult without expensive extraction systems.
iv) The resin requires low viscosity for manual handling. This usually compromises their mechanical/thermal properties due to the high concentration of diluent/styrene required.
5. Typical application
Standard wind turbine blades, production boats, architectural trim, etc.
